Festive events dedicated to the Victory Day in Miory region

In Miory, on May 9, the ceremonial events began with a prayer service for the fallen soldiers on the Square of Memory of the Fallen Fighters.

Representatives of labor collectives, public associations, school students, residents and guests of the city gathered at the rally at the mass grave. The participants of the events laid flowers and wreaths at the foot of the mass grave, a memorial sign in honor of the soldiers-liberators of Miory from the Nazi invaders and the sculptural composition "Children of the World to Children of War". The procession of generations united hundreds of Miory residents in its ranks.

Member of the Council of the Republic Vladimir Matveev took part in the festive events.

A landmark event was the naming of Miory Secondary School No. 2 after Nikolai Izvarin, who died during the liberation of Miory, and the opening of a memorial plaque in his honor. The event was attended by relatives of Nikolai Izvarin from Rostov region of the Russian Federation.

In the village of Leonpol, a memorial plaque was opened on a mass grave. During the search work, six more names of soldiers who died during the liberation of Miory region were established. 196 Soviet soldiers are buried in the mass grave.

On May 12, a solemn ceremony was held at  Poviatye Secondary School to award the educational institution the name of the Hero of the Soviet Union Viktor Babichev, who died during the liberation of Miory region from Nazi invaders. In a solemn atmosphere, a memorial sign in honor of the Hero was opened on the school grounds.
